Landscape paintings Cornwall, South West England - Oil sketches
|
The authority and presence of nature is an important element of Williams' work. These plein-air oil sketches form part of an ongoing, informal project that collectively documents the unique qualities of the Cornish landscape. Predominantly facing inland rather than towards the coast the paintings are diary-esque notations of a particular time and place and represent a visual lament against an increasing and homogenized development of Cornwall. Each oil sketch is completed in a single session and their comparatively small size (approx 17 x 13cm) allows for a certain amount of topographical detail to be retained. |
